Luis Suarez scored a hat-trick to complete a remarkable comeback for Inter Miami in a 6-4 win over the Philadelphia Union, but saw Lionel Messi suffer an injury scare.

The Argentina captain, who is expected to go to his sixth World Cup this summer, came off after registering two assists to help Miami come from 2-0 down.

The Union made a perfect start within three minutes, as Milan Iloski sent a half-volley past Dayne St. Clair, who then fouled the striker to give away a 10th-minute penalty, which the American converted.

But Messi got his first assist just moments later as he danced through the box to set up German Berterame to pull a goal back.

Bruno Damiani turned in the rebound of Frankie Westfield's saved shot to restore the Union's two-goal cushion 20 minutes in, but Suarez got his first goal before the half-hour mark with an acrobatic volley.

Berterame then dragged Miami back onto level terms in the 41st minute from another Messi assist before Suarez gave them the lead for the first time, tapping in from close range.

The Uruguayan was denied a third goal before half-time by an offside against Rodrigo De Paul, but the Union got another chance to level from the spot after a Sergio Reguilon handball, and Iloski completed his hat-trick from 12 yards in the eighth minute of stoppage time.

Ian Fray hit the post early in the second half, while De Paul rattled the crossbar just before Messi asked to be taken off in the 74th minute, holding the back of his left leg.

Suarez completed his hat-trick seven minutes later as he found an empty net, and Miami rounded the scoring off in the 93rd minute, with De Paul finishing off a late counter-attack.

Miami have recorded just their second-ever win at Nu Stadium, and made some history along the way in an incredible free-scoring match.

With the score 4-4 at half-time, it was the highest-scoring first-half ever, while it is also the second-most goals scored in an MLS match in history, behind only the LA Galaxy's 7-4 win over the Colorado Rapids in May 1998.

Suarez scored his first MLS hat-trick since May 2024 (against New York Red Bulls, while it was Iloski's first treble since June 2025 for San Diego FC against the Union.

Miami racked up 17 shots worth 5.51 expected goals (xG), while Philadelphia accumulated 3.95 xG from 21 attempts; both sides finished with 10 efforts on target apiece.
