Inter Miami 4-2 CF Montreal: Messi and Suarez net doubles in six-goal thriller
Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez scored two goals each as Inter Miami snapped a four-game winless streak in MLS by beating CF Montreal 4-2.
Inter Miami got back to winning form in MLS with a 4-2 victory over CF Montreal on Wednesday, inspired by Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.
Buoyed by a late comeback against the Philadelphia Union last time out, Miami snapped a four-game winless streak in a six-goal thriller at Chase Stadium.
Miami owed their victory to three of their former Barcelona stars, in particular Messi and Suarez.
Messi, teed up by Sergio Busquets, curled in a 27th-minute opener, before crossing in for Suarez to double Miami's advantage midway through the second half.
Suarez pounced on a defensive mistake to grab his second in the 71st minute, though Dante Sealy dragged Montreal back into it soon after.
Slick combination play between Suarez and Messi saw the latter put the result beyond all doubt, though, before Victor Loturi scored a consolation goal for the visitors in stoppage time.
Data Debrief: Messi back in the groove
Messi had not managed to win in his last four appearances, which was the longest winless run of the Argentine's club career since he went four games without victory in 2019, with Barcelona.
He had not gone five straight league games without a win since 2013.
Messi was at his magical best, having a team-high seven shots and creating three chances, a tally equalled by Suarez.
Miami rounded out with 2.39 expected goals, with Montreal accumulating 1.54.
