Monaco chief casts doubt over Pogba's future
Monaco chief executive Thiago Scuro has hinted that Paul Pogba could leave the club ahead of the new Ligue 1 season.
Pogba joined Monaco last June, signing a two-year deal at the end of his suspension for a doping offence.
The Frenchman missed a large chunk of the 2025-2026 campaign because of issues with his fitness.
He managed just six appearances, all of which came in Ligue 1 and amounted to just 115 minutes, while he did not feature in the UEFA Champions League, being left out of its squad for the knockout stages.
Scuro admitted earlier this year that the signing of Pogba had not met his expectations, and when asked if the 33-year-old was likely to leave, he told Get French Football News: "Yes, of course. Maybe he'll leave, maybe he'll stay.
"It's a very complicated issue. We have a lot of respect for him as a person first and foremost.
"When he arrived here, he was very positive; he helped the young players. But the truth is also that the project [with him] didn't work well last season. When we started it, our expectations were very different."
Monaco recently brought in Filipe Luis as its new head coach ahead of the 2026-2027 campaign.
Monaco is also said to need to reduce its wage bill after it was capped, and Pogba could be one of those that leaves to ease those worries.
Scuro acknowledged that the final decision will come down to Luis, who described Pogba as a "special player" and said he plans to have conversations with him in the coming days.
"I think now we need to be fair with him: look at his preparation each week, see how he's progressed physically and technically," Scuro added.
"And then it will be the coach's decision whether Filipe Luis will give him playing time or not. We have the summer to see what Paul's level will be."
