Spectacular strikes light up Monaco win over Metz
Monaco regained top spot in Ligue 1 after Aleksandr Golovin’s spectacular double saw it claim a 2-1 comeback win over Metz, which scored inside five minutes with an astonishing goal from inside its own half from teenager Lamine Camara.
Camara may have been asked if he'd watched the Beckham documentary series that has lit up Netflix in recent weeks as his 4th-minute strike evoked memories of David Beckham's famous hit for Manchester United against Wimbledon in the 1996/1997 Premier League Season.
But Golovin was equal to it, first curling in a powerful strike from 25 yards out to equalise in the 42-minute before somehow squeezing a free-kick in off the post from a similar distance 10 minutes into the second half.
In truth it was the least Monaco deserved, having dominated much of the match with 27 shots, 13 of which were on target to Metz's four.
Monaco restored its one-point lead at the top of France's top flight after Nice beat Marseille in their derby. Paris Saint-Germain remains a further point back in third having also recorded victory over Strasbourg.
