PSG puts Monaco to the sword with late flourish
Ligue 1 leader Paris Saint-Germain increased the gap between itself and third-placed Monaco to six points after a 5-2 demolition of the principality side.
Goncalo Ramos started the scoring in the 18th minute when Monaco goalkeeper Philipp Kohn spillled what should have been a simple catch into the Potuguese's path for a simple tap-in.
But barely four minutes later, PSG keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma produced a howler of his own, scuffing a pass straight to Takumi Minamino, who made no mistake with his finish to level matters.
Another defensive error saw PSG go back in front from the spot prior to the break after Ousmane Dembele was fouled in the box and Kylian Mbappe smashed home the resulting penalty.
It remained 2-1 for much of the second half, but PSG again exploded into life with 20 minutes remaining when Dembele produced a moment of magic to make it 3-1.
The French winger brought a high ball down perfectly into his path at full tilt before surging towards goal and firing high into the net from a very tight angle.
Two minutes later, Vitinha added another spectacular goal with a curling finish to the top corner from just outside the box, and while Folarin Balogun grabbed one back for Monaco, Randal Kolo Muani fired home PSG's fifth in stoppage-time to seal the result.
Second-place Nice can reduce the gap to PSG to one point with a victory over Toulouse, and while the season is far from over for Monaco, it's ability to only convert only two of 14 attempts on goal meant this was a missed opportunity to keep the title race close.
