Lyon loses again as Grosso sacking has little impact
Having dismissed Fabio Grosso as coach last week, Lyon still failed to secure a second win of a miserable Ligue 1 season so far as Lens claimed a 3-2 victory Stade Bollaert-Delelis.
Jake O'Brien had sparked hopes of a positive away day for the visitors when he volleyed home Ernest Nuamah's corner in the 15th minute, but the Irisman's errant backpass allowed Wesley Said to pick up the ball and slot home easily at the other end 11 minutes later to level things up.
It remained level for the remainder of the half, but seven minutes into the scond period, a brain snap from Skelly Alvero saw Lens awarded a penalty, and the ever reliable Przemyslaw Frankowski blasted it down the centre of the goal to make it 2-1 for the home side.
O'Brien was on hand again, however, to level matters once more when he bundled home another corner on 72 minutes, but Lens would score from its next attack when Frankowski again found the net, shooting through the feet of Dejan Lovren to give the hosts a lead they would not reliquish again.
Lyon remains bottom of Ligue 1 with just a solitary win from it's 13 games this season and will be keen to install a permanent manager soon to right what is a rapidly sinking ship.
For Lens, the victory put it within sight of the top six and it remains one point behind Reims, the team currently occupying that place on the table.
