Notts County claims first-leg advantage
Notts County will take a slender advantage into the second leg of its League Two play-off semi-final after securing a narrow victory away at Chesterfield.
The host side was handed an early opportunity to take the lead when Liam Mandeville was brought down inside the penalty area after five minutes.
However, Lee Bonis was unable to convert from the spot, striking his low effort against the base of the post.
Notts County took full advantage of that reprieve and moved ahead midway through the first half.
Jayden Luker finished from close range at the back post after Tom Iorpenda delivered a teasing ball across the face of goal.
Chesterfield enjoyed a greater share of possession for much of the remainder of the contest as they searched for an equaliser, but were repeatedly frustrated by a well-organised Magpies defence.
The Spireites came closest from a set piece, with James Belshaw producing a fine save to deny Tom Pearce鈥檚 free-kick and preserve County鈥檚 lead.
