Murray's debut double helps Wigan crush Cobblers
Frasher Murray netted a double on his Wigan Athletic debut as the hosts started the new EFL League One season with a dominant 3-1 win at home against Northampton Town.
Murray opened the scoring on 29 minutes before doubling his tally a minute after the break after Jensen Weir had doubled the Latics' lead before half-time.
The Cobblers grabbed a consolation on 70 minutes through Michael Forbes, but there was only ever going to be one result that late in the game.
Wigan boss Ryan Lowe was delighted with the result.
“Northampton throw everything at you, and put real pressure on us, but I thought the lads were fantastic," he said.
“Everything we asked them to do, they applied themselves right, and got the goals and potentially should’ve had a couple more.
“We can’t get too carried away. It’s our first win of the season, and we’ve got another 45 to go.
“If we can make the Brick Community Stadium a fortress and be hard to beat, we’ll be OK."
