Matarazzo extends contract with Real Sociedad
Pellegrino Matarazzo led Real Sociedad to the Copa del Rey title in April, and he has now been rewarded with a new contract until the end of the 2027-2028 season.
Matarazzo was named as La Real's head coach in December 2025, signing a contract until June 2027.
However, after leading the club to the Copa del Rey title, winning a penalty shootout against Atletico Madrid, he has been rewarded with a new deal.
He became the first American coach to win a major trophy in one of Europe's top five leagues, clinching La Real's first piece of silverware since 2019-2020.
"I have no problem with high expectations and the bar being set," Matarazzo said.
"To be honest, we perform very well under pressure, we are excited about the competitions we have this season, and we will push ourselves every day to achieve our best."
Matarazzo has won 10 of his matches in charge of La Real in all competitions so far, and although it finished 10th in LaLiga, it will play in the UEFA Europa League in 2026-2027 as a result of its Copa del Rey success.
La Real begins the next LaLiga season away to Real Madrid.
