Matarazzo extends contract with Copa del Rey winners Real Sociedad
Pellegrino Matarazzo led Real Sociedad to the Copa del Rey title in April, and he has now been rewarded with a new contract.
Pellegrino Matarazzo has renewed his contract with Real Sociedad until the end of the 2027-28 season.
Matarazzo was named as La Real's head coach in December 2025, signing a contract until June 2027.
However, after leading the club to the Copa del Rey title, following a penalty shootout victory over Atletico Madrid, he has been rewarded with a new deal.
He became the first American coach to win a major trophy in one of Europe's top five leagues, clinching La Real's first piece of silverware since 2019-20.
"I have no problem with high expectations and the bar being set," Matarazzo told the club's media channels.
"To be honest, we perform very well under pressure, we are excited about the competitions we have this season, and we will push ourselves every day to achieve our best."
Matarazzo has won 10 of his matches in charge of La Real in all competitions so far (D10 L6), and though they finished 10th in LaLiga, they will play in the Europa League in 2026-27 due to their Copa del Rey success.
La Real begin the next LaLiga season away to Real Madrid.
