Single Lo Celso goal puts Betis on top
Real Betis will sit atop the early LaLiga standings after Giovani Lo Celso scored the only goal of the game in a 1-0 win against Alaves on Saturday (AEST).
Argentina international Lo Celso struck with his right foot in the 16th minute after the ball dropped kindly for him inside the box, and Alaves could not find a suitable reponse.
Betis might have added to the scoreline were it not for Antonio Sivera in the Alaves goal and also the crossbar, which denied substitute Cedric Bakambu what would have been a superb chipped goal deep into stoppage-time.
Betis sits top of the table after a win and a draw from its opening two matches, while Alaves, which also won on the opening weekend, is in ninth after this first defeat of the season.
