Mbappe strikes again as Real Madrid beats Sevilla
Real Madrid won its final LaLiga away game of the season against Sevilla, which had Loic Bade and Isaac Romero sent off in either half.
Late goals from Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham helped Real Madrid earn a 2-0 win over nine-man Sevilla at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.
Sevilla had managed to keep Madrid at bay despite having Loic Bade and Isaac Romero sent off in either half, but Carlo Ancelotti's team found a way through late on.
Having seen its LaLiga title hopes extinguished after Barcelona's 2-0 win over Espanyol, Madrid opted to rest several first-team starters against Sevilla.
The host was down to 10 men in the 12th minute when Bade hauled Mbappe back with the striker through on goal, a decision that was confirmed after a VAR review.
However, despite dominating possession, Madrid struggled to create many chances with Mbappe and Endrick missing clear opportunities before the break.
Sevilla's task was made even more difficult three minutes after the restart when Romero, on as a half-time substitute for Dodi Lukebakio, was also sent off.
Romero's red card was confirmed by a pitch-side review, with the Spaniard having lunged into a high challenge on Aurelien Tchouameni in the middle of the park.
Having just rattled the crossbar, Mbappe put Madrid ahead in the 75th minute, finding the bottom-left corner with a fine strike from 25 yards out.
Madrid sealed the win three minutes from time when Victor Munoz's cross to the back post was headed across goal by Gonzalo Garcia for Bellingham to tap home.
After the disappointment of losing out on the LaLiga title in midweek, Madrid offered the perfect response in Ancelotti's penultimate game in charge of the club.
It was two of Madrid's shining lights this season that got it through a difficult encounter, with Mbappe taking his tally to 40 goals in all competitions this campaign.
Indeed, the Frenchman netted his seventh goal from outside the box across all competitions this season. That is the joint-most among players in Europe's top five leagues, level with Barcelona's Lamine Yamal.
Bellingham also popped up with another goal as he continues to grow in a Madrid shirt. Only Cole Palmer (42) has scored more goals in the top five European leagues than the 21 year-old in all competitions (37, equalling Phil Foden) among midfielders since he arrived in the Spanish capital.
But it cause was helped by another rash display by its opponents. Sevilla has now received the most red cards in LaLiga this season (eight).
Romero's sending off also saw him become the player to receive the earliest dismissal in LaLiga history for a substitute, getting his red card two minutes and 18 seconds after his introduction at half-time.
