In-form Suarez at the double for five-star Barca
Luis Suarez scored twice at the end of a week to remember and Lionel Messi was also on target as Barcelona resoundingly returned to winning ways in LaLiga by battering Las Palmas 5-0.
Uruguay forward Suarez scored his 100th Barca goal in Thursday's (AEDT) 3-1 Copa del Rey victory over Athletic Bilbao and he broke the deadlock here during a first half dominated by the home side at Camp Nou.
Andre Gomes - who had one of his best games in a Barca shirt - and Rafinha were among those to be denied in the opening period, but Messi - who also scored against Athletic - capitalised on goalkeeper Javi Varas' error to make it 2-0 in the 52nd minute.
Suarez grabbed his second with a cool finish five minutes later before Arda Turan followed up on the rebound from the Uruguayan's saved effort to make it three goals in seven second-half minutes.
That put Barca out of sight, before Aleix Vidal completed the rout with 10 minutes left with his first goal for the club.
Luis Enrique's men consequently rebounded from last week's contentious 1-1 draw at Villarreal to close within two points of leader and rival Real Madrid, albeit having played two games more.
Zinedine Zidane's side travels to Sevilla - which drops to third below Barca - on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid held on for a slender 1-0 win over Real Betis in LaLiga on Sunday (AEDT) thanks to Nico Gaitan's early goal.
Diego Simeone's men looked a far sterner defensive unit than it did in Wednesday's (AEDT) woeful 3-2 Copa del Rey second-leg defeat to Las Palmas, but going forward looked devoid of craft for long periods.
Initially it looked bright in attack and Gaitan, who was given just his fourth league start of the season after impressing on Wednesday, repaid Simeone's faith with the opener.
There was little else for Atletico supporters to get excited about, though, as Betis produced a strong performance of its own with home goalkeeper Miguel Angel Moya impressing.
The win enabled Atletico to move within two points of third-placed Sevilla, which hosts Real Madrid on Monday (AEDT).
