Canada pegged and Ireland draw in final warm-up
Canada was held to a 1-1 draw by Republic of Ireland in their final warm-up friendly ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Jake O'Brien's own goal had given Canada a first-half lead, but Chiedozie Ogbene turned in the rebound of Troy Parrott's saved penalty to salvage a draw.
Canada started brightly, with Tajon Buchanan seeing an early effort saved before it dominated possession.
Its early pressure was then rewarded in the 23rd minute as O'Brien inadvertently turned in Stephen Eustaquio's corner in a crowded box.
Canada could not build on that advantage despite a host of half-chances on either side of the break before Cyle Larin caught Jamie McGrath with a high boot just inside the box to give away a penalty.
Maxime Crepeau then made a big save to keep out Parrott's spot-kick, and it was Ogbene who reacted quickest to reach the rebound and turn it into the back of the net.
The hosts continued to push for a winner but could not find a way past Mark Travers as they were held to a frustrating result ahead of their FIFA World Cup opener against Bosnia-Herzegovina on 13 June (AEST).
