Remedi rocket seals Penarol's place after comeback
Penarol fought back from 2-0 down to beat Olimpia 3-2 and seal its place in the last 16 of the Copa Libertadores.
Olimpia took a shock 2-0 lead into the half-time interval of this Group H match, courtesy of goals from Lisandro Lopez and Ivan Leguizamon.
But the hosts roared back after the break, grabbing the first goal back in the 50th minute through Leonardo Fernandez's tap-in at the far post.
Maximilliano Olivera deflected in a corner for a scrappy second to level the scores five minutes later, but Penarol saved the best for last.
Eric Remedi picked up a pass on 73 minutes, far outside the penalty area, taking a moment to settle the ball before unleashing his shot from miles out to score a spectacular winner, ensuring his side's place in the knockout stages.
Penarol is second in the group on 10 points, equal with Velez Sarsfield, which won its match 3-0 against San Antonio Bulo Bulo to guarantee its passage through.
The two teams will finish the group phase by playing each other, with top spot in the group up for grabs.
