Pereira the hero as Flamengo scrapes through
Leo Pereira's 66th-minute strike spared Flamengo's blushes, the Brazilian giant squeezing past Deportivo Tachira 1-0 to qualify for the Copa Libertadores knockout rounds on goal difference.
Flamengo needed to win and hope that Central Cordoba lost to L.D.U. Quito to have a chance of qualifying on the final matchday in Group C.
The Ecuadorian side's 3-0 victory over the Argentine, coupled with Flamengo's result, sent the Brazilian club through as runner-up via a plus-three goal differential over Central Cordoba.
LDU advanced as group-winner, with all three clubs finishing the first phase of the competition on 11 points.
Central Cordoba dropped into third and a spot in the Copa Sudamericana knockout rounds.
