Estudiantes seals first win against 10-man Cusco
Estudiantes claimed its first win of the Copa Libertadores campaign, but it needed a stroke of fortune and a numerical advantage to see off a spirited Cusco FC side.
Facundo Farías opened the scoring on 28 minutes after a calamitous mix-up between goalkeeper Pedro Díaz and defender Aldair Fuentes left the ball gift-wrapped.
Cusco's response was immediate, Lucas Colitto producing a brilliant finish to level the scores on 30 minutes.
The tie turned early in the second half. Colitto received a second yellow card just five minutes after the restart, leaving the Peruvian side a man down.
Estudiantes capitalised swiftly, with Tiago Palacios drilling home a composed left-footed strike from outside the area on 48 minutes to seal the win.
Estudiantes tops Group A with four points, while Cusco sits bottom without a point after two matches.
