Swansea City have appointed Alan Sheehan as their head coach on a permanent basis after his successful spell as caretaker.

He has now signed a three-year deal with Swansea, taking on his first permanent managerial role.

Luke Williams left Swansea in February, with the club looking over their shoulders at the Championship relegation zone, but Sheehan has impressed since taking over.

The Swans now sit 11th in the table on 60 points, 12 clear of Hull City in 22nd, and are guaranteed a top-half finish with only one game remaining this season.

Sheehan had initially only been placed in charge for five matches but agreed in March to oversee the campaign through to the end of the season.

"It's a privilege to be at this football club, and now I have the honour of officially being the head coach," Sheehan told the club's official website.

"It's somewhat surreal. There's been a really good feeling around the place, and I spoke over the last couple of months about building something.

"I've been in talks with the ownership for a good while now, and I haven't really changed what I've been saying about moving forward. Now is a really good time to move forward."

Sheehan has overseen 12 matches, winning seven and losing just three (D2), averaging 1.92 points per game during his time in charge.

Williams, by comparison, averaged 1.12 during his 33 games at the helm, winning just 10 of those (D7 L16).
