Aussie star Irankunda set for big Watford move
Australia star Nestory Irankunda appears set to make a permanent move from Bayern Munich to EFL Championship side Watford in a reported deal worth €4 million ($7.1 million).
The 19-year-old attacker, who shot to fame as a 16-year-old while playing for Adelaide United in the A-League, moved to the Bundesliga champion in 2024.
However, he has never played for Bayern since signing and was sent out on loan to Grasshoppers, where he played 21 games in the Swiss Super League.
Irankunda made 55 appearances for the Reds in the A-League, and a move to the Championship, if it happens, will be a significant step up in quality.
The Hornets have submitted a bid to sign him permanently, according to reports in Europe, and Bayern is believed to be placing a 50 per cent sell-on fee as part of the deal, indicating it sees him having a bright future that will increase his value significantly.
Bayern will also reportedly insert a buy-back clause, but a figure on that has not been disclosed.
Sources claim Irankunda has already agreed personal terms with Watford and will sign a four-year contract with the Vicarage Road club.
Watford will be looking for promotion back to the Premier League in the upcoming Championship season with a new manager, after Paulo Pezzolano replaced Tom Cleverley in the hot seat.
Watford begins its league campaign with a trip to newly-promoted Charlton Athletic on 10 August (AEST).
