Wrexham beaten again as Baggies raid Racecourse
Wrexham suffered a second straight defeat since returning to the EFL Championship as West Bromwich Albion came away from The Racecourse Ground with a 3-2 win.
It was another tough test for the home side, which lost late against Southampton on matchday one last weekend, and again conceded twice late in the game here to hand the Baggies all three points and a second straight win.
With Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and and Rob McElhenny in the stands for the first game at The Racecourse at this level in more than 43 years, the atmosphere was bouncing in north Wales.
But that didn't translate to the pitch as West Brom had the better of the earlier chances and went ahead on 20 minutes when Isaac Price swept home.
There was more concern for Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson when Josh Windass went down just before the half-hour with what appeared to be a hamstring problem, prompting an early introduction for new club-record signing Nathan Broadhead.
Wrexham did level things up before the break, though, when Kiefer Moore delivered a cross from the right wing that bounced off James McClean and into the path of Lewis O'Brien, whose shot bounced into the turn before finding the back of the net.
Immediately after the break, Broadhead should have put his new side in front, but his effort went agonisingly wide, and the miss would prove crucial.
Substitute Jed Wallace beat Danny Ward at his near post on 74 minutes and Price nodded home his second of the day with less than 10 minutes to go as Wrexham folded late again, deflating the home support.
A flying header from Sam Smith in the fifth minute of stoppage-time added some respectability to the scoreline for Wrexham, but the result will have Parkinson pondering his next move with some concern, with another stern test ahead against Sheffield United to come next weekend.
