Rovers blows promotion as Blades seal a point
Blackburn Rovers blew a lead to draw 1-1 with Sheffield United on the final day of the EFL Championship's regular season, missing out of the last play-off place as Bristol City's draw with Preston North End ensured it would take sixth spot.
Things were looking good for Blackburn when Yuki Ohashi gave it the lead five minutes into the second half, and with the Robins 2-0 down against Preston.
But just before the hour, Anel Ahmedhodzic equalised for the Blades and then Rovers fans listened in horror at the news from Ashton Gate as Bristol City came back to earn the point it needed to stay in the play-off places.
Sheffield United will likely be the favourite as it heads into the play-offs having finished third after spending much of the season battling with champion Leeds United and second-placed Burnley for the two automatic promotion spots.
The Blades will face Bristol City away from home in the first leg of their play-off semi-final on Friday 9 May (AEST) before hosting the Robins at Bramall Lane for the second leg on Tuesday 13 May (AEST).
For Rovers, it's back to the drawing board as another season goes by without promotion for the former Premier League champion.
