Preston keeps Bristol at bay with solid away win
Lewis Dobbin and Alfie Devine were on target as Preston North End defeated fellow top-six hopeful Bristol City 2-0 at Ashton Gate in the EFL Championship.
On-loan Aston Villa forward Dobbin slid home after eight minutes, before Devine made sure of the points with a low drive with 20 minutes to play.
Preston boss Paul Heckingbottom ailed strong individual performances within his side after a busy run of matches during the festive period.
"A really strong away performance. Some big individual performances as well, and a good finish to these four games we've had in 10 days," he said.
"We've had six days of travelling and three overnight stays so it's big credit to all the group because everyone on the pitch has been fantastic.
"I thought we were dangerous all game and probably the only blemish on that game was not creating more goalscoring opportunities."
For Robins boss Gerhard Struber, it proved to be a day of frustration.
"Big frustration. My boys are really disappointed right now. Between the two boxes, we created a good game but we made it easy for them, the goals that they scored," he said.
"These two times, we were not sharp enough to come out and clear the moments. I think we could be more pragmatic in these moments.
"In the opponents' box, we were not ruthless or clinical enough today. Preston are a really good, organised team, with great physical power, and the early goal did not help us today."
