Pointless Blades rockbottom after defeat to Millwall
Sheffield United is still searching for its first point of the EFL Championship season after a 1-0 defeat to Millwall left it sitting bottom of the early standings.
After enjoying a dominant campaign last season, but missing out on automatic promotion by one place before failing in the play-offs, hopes were high that the Blades would challenge again for promotion back to the Premier League.
But life thus far has been difficult as the hangover of disappointment lingers, and Rubel Selles' side was booed from the field at the end of both halves.
Luke Cundle scored the only goal at Bramall Lane in the first half as the hosts failed to clear from their box, and Selles couldn't hide his disappointment.
"I'm disappointed, we started with the intention to make a good performance in front of our own fans," he said.
"The first five or 10 minutes we were on it, then we started to go into a mode that is not the identity of how we want to play, and we concede a goal.
"From half-time onwards, we were on top of the game and tried how very best and in the second half we were the team we want to be like, creating situations, but this is football and it isn't going to be easy to turn the situation, but we must stick together and work hard and find a moment to change the dynamic.
"I can live with the situation if we are creating chances, but for some reason the ball doesn't want to go in, but we can't be a team that is waiting for the situation to change like we did in the first half and that is our responsibility.
"We are capable of doing things and we are going to continue working hard and putting things in place."
