Leicester deflates Baggies with dramatic late goal
West Bromwich Albion blew the chance to get its season back on track after a Nat Phillips own goal handed Leicester City a point in the EFL Championship on Saturday (AEST).
The Baggies had gone ahead somewhat against the run of play in the 10th minute at The Hawthorns when Samuel Iling-Junior, making his first start for the hosts, weaved his way through the Foxes' defence to score a sensational individual goal.
The hosts then held the lead deep into the second half and should have put the game to bed with a free-kick in the 90th minute, but Josh Maja somehow skied his effort from inside the six-yard box after Jakub Stolarczyk had parried Jed Wallace's initial set-piece effort.
It was a miss that proved to be costly for Ryan Mason's side as deep into stoppage-time, Leicester launched an attack that saw Phillips inadvertently poke the ball into his own net after Bobby De Cordova-Reid volleyed Abdul Fatawu's diagonal ball across the face of goal.
West Brom, which came into the match on the back of two straight defeats, has now won only one of its past five matches, and could slip out of the top six by the end of the weekend. A win here would have moved it up to second on the table.
For Leicester, it was a third straight draw but ended a run of six straight wins at The Hawthorns.
Neverthless, Martí Cifuentes' side did move up to third on the table with 12 points, stretching its unbeaten run to five matches.
