Coventry falls to first home defeat of the season
Coventry City suffered its first home defeat of the Championship season and fell to its second loss to Ipswich Town within a month as it went down 2-0.
Frank Lampard's men had the opportunity to go 11 points clear at the top of the standings ahead of Middlesbrough's game, but this was a display that was below their usual high standards, and they struggled to create chances throughout.
The visitor made a strong start and went close towards the end of the first half, with Coventry goalkeeper Carl Rushworth making a stunning save to deny Jack Taylor after he slammed a powerful effort at goal from 15 yards out.
Ipswich continued to dominate after the break as Matt Grimes's uncharacteristically poor pass led to Ivan Azon being set through on goal, but his low shot was saved by Rushworth.
Nevertheless, the opener arrived just three minutes later through Jack Clarke, as his curling shot deflected in off ex-Ipswich defender Luke Woolfenden.
Lampard made changes in midfield as the home side searched for an equaliser, but Ipswich doubled its lead in the 82nd minute as Clarke led a counter-attack, threading a pass to Marcelino Nunez, who then found Wes Burns to finish off a sweeping move.
