Boro closes gap on Coventry with Owls swoop
Middlesbrough moved back to within a point of Championship leader Coventry City with a 1-0 win at Sheffield Wednesday.
The game's only goal came in the sixth minute as Morgan Whittaker slotted home from inside the area to make it two goals in as many games for the Teessiders.
This one could have been won more comfortably for the visitor had it not been for the heroics of Joe Lumley in the Wednesday goal as the former Middlesbrough man produced a string of fine saves to keep his side in it.
Sheffield Wednesday applied pressure at the other end as the game wore on, but Rob Edwards's side managed to see it out to make it back-to-back victories and go four points clear of third place in the standings.
In the other fixtures Watford came from a goal down to register a 2-1 home win over West Bromwich Albion.
Rocco Vata scored the second-half winner for the Hornets to gift Javi Gracia his first win since his return to the Club.
Queens Park Rangers got back to winning ways as Rumarn Burrell volleyed home from close range to help his side to a 1-0 victory away at Swansea City.
QPR is level on points with Stoke City in sixth with 18 points from 11 games.
Finally, Wrexham managed to hold on to a 1-0 win at home to Oxford United.
Nathan Broadhead's second league goal of the campaign was enough for all three points for the Red Dragons.
