Birmingham hammers Norwich in Clement's first game
Philippe Clement had a nightmare first match as Norwich City coach, seeing his side thrashed 4-1 at Birmingham City in the EFL Championship.
Former Rangers boss Clement took the reins at Norwich last week after Liam Manning was sacked, but had no answers after his new side went behind in the third minute to a Marvin Ducksch tap-in.
Jay Stansfield headed the Blues further ahead, but there was a glimmer of hope for the Canaries when an excellent move ended with Mathias Kvistgaarden pulling a goal back.
But Ducksch restored the two-goal lead with another close-range finish just before half-time and Stansfield also completed a brace with Birmingham's fourth 10 minutes after the restart, and they eased to victory thereafter.
Norwich is second-from-bottom on the table after a fourth defeat in the past five matches. It has lost eight of its past 10 games, anad no doubt Clement is well aware of the size of the task he faces with the team five points from safety.
Birmingham, meanwhile, secured its third win in four games here, rising up to ninth on the table and just one point from the play-off picture.
"It was by far not good enough in the first half – lacking in intensity, lacking confidence on the ball and not doing the right things in our structure defensively," Clement said after the game.
"We were not doing the things that we trained, maybe out of nervousness or whatever, so there's things to talk about.
"When we could show things at half-time it was much better, a much better structure creating chances and better on the ball and even getting more chances than Birmingham in the second half.
"But they scored the one goal where we made an individual mistake, so we need to look at the things that went wrong in the first half and build on the things that they did in the second half.
"We know we have a lot of things to work on, but we need to do it step by step.
"You cannot do everything in four or five days or four or five weeks."
