Hjulmand urges Leverkusen to attack run-in
With seven games of the Bundesliga season remaining, Bayer Leverkusen will need a strong run to qualify for the UEFA Champions League, and coach Kasper Hjulmand is calling for an all-out attack from his players.
Leverkusen's European hopes for this season were ended by Arsenal last month and Hjulmand's side has drawn its past three Bundesliga matches, leaving it in sixth place in the standings.
Leverkusen also faces Bayern Munich in the DFB-Pokal semi-finals later in April, and ahead of Sunday's (AEST) meeting with struggling Wolfsburg, Hjulmand laid out the plan of attack.
"Of course, we assessed and reflected on the past weeks and games during the international break," he said.
"Every game is hugely important. Our goal for the run-in is clear: We want to attack and attack the table."
Wolfsburg sits 17th on the table, but Hjulmand feels its performances have merited better results.
"Of course, they’ve had problems this season, but they often play better than their position in the table currently suggests," he added.
