Kane scores three as Bayern puts eight past Mainz
Harry Kane became the first player to score four hat-tricks in his first season in the Bundesliga as Bayern Munich tore Mainz to pieces, winning 8-1 at Allianz Arena.
It was a perfect treble for the England captain as he scored with his left foot, his right foot and his head to rack up an astonishing 30 goals for the season in an emphatic victory for the defending champion, and he also provided an outstanding assist for Jamal Musiala's goal.
Kane and Bayern's first came in the 13th minute when he tapped in a simple finish after Musiala sent the ball across to him after having expertly taken down a pass from Thomas Muller.
Leon Gortezka scored the second on 19 minutes, but when Nadiem Amiri fired a sensational free-kick past Manuel Neuer just after the half-hour mark, things didn't seem as academic as they would eventually become.
Kane stretched the lead further with a goal in the seventh minute of first-half stoppage-time Muller made it 4-1 two minutes after the break before a stunning pass from Kane found Musiala, who made it 5-1 on 61 minutes.
Serge Gnabry somehow flicked home a long ball from Gortezka to make it six with his first goal of the season and with 20 minutes to go, Kane completed his hat-trick with a header, although the celebrations were somewhat stifled after a long VAR check for a possible offside.
There was still time for Goretzka to complete a double and make it 8-1 in stoppage-time, and the referee called mercy soon after.
Kane has now joined Hamburg's Uwe Seeler as the only previous player to reach that mark in his first season in Germany's top tier with 30 goals. That was back in the 1963-1964 season, and it seems Kane is on course to push far beyond the mark with nine games still to be played.
