Dortmund dominates for no reward at Heidenheim
Borussia Dortmund registered its first draw in the Bundesliga since 2019 at the worst possible time, unable to breakdown Heidenheim and ending with a 0-0 stalemate that halted a solid 2024 so far.
The result leaves Dortmund fourth on the table when it could have edged above Stuttgart into third with a win, and with a possession stat that read 70 per cent at the end of the contest, the disappointment was clear for the visitors.
Donyell Malen had an effort ruled out for offside in the first half but Dortmund had no real attacking punch after the break despite three changes on the hour.
Niclas Fuellkrug's shot in the 86th minute was saved, and indeed Heidenheim might have stolen the points in stoppage-time, but the header from Kevin Sessa drifted narrowly wide of the target.
Dortmund, whose last goalless draw was in October 2019 against Schalke, is now level on points with Stuttgart, which faces Freiburg on Sunday (AEDT).
Bayer Leverkusen remains top ands travel to Darmstadt next while second-placed Bayern Munich in second place will host Borussia Moenchengladbach.
