Donyell's double dials in victory for Dortmund
A double from Donyell Malen earned Borussia Dortmund a dominant 3-0 win against SC Freiburg in the Bundesliga as fan protests against finanacial proposals for the game again caused significant disruption.
The Dutch forward had come close with a bicycle kick early in the game, but made no mistake on 16 minutes with a sensational strike through three Freiburg defenders to open the scoring.
Niclas Fullkrug then found Malen for the second during stoppage-time at the end of the first half, allowing him to slot home his ninth league goal of the season for 2-0.
Fullkrug added the third three minutes from time when he headed home a brilliant first-time ball from Ian Maatsen into the back of the net.
The game was interrupted twice by fans throwing chocolate coins and tennis balls on to the pitch in protest to a planned investor deal with the league, leading to 12 mintes of stoppage-time at the end of the first half, and more again at the end of the second.
But Dortmund fans would have at least been pleased with a result that tightens their side's grip on fourth place with 40 points, the same as third-placed Stuttgart.
RB Leipzig is fifth on 36 points, and travels to Augsburg on Sunday (AEDT) for its next match while the disappointments for Freiburg keep coming as it remains outisde the top six in seventh on 28 points, with Hoffenheim and Werder Bremen able to push it further down the ladder if they win their games.
