Racing seals late draw in dramatic play-off semi
Julio Alonso scored in the eighth minute of stoppage-time to secure a 3-3 draw for Real Racing Club after it trailed Mirandes 3-1 in an action-packed first leg of their LaLiga 2 play-off semi-final.
It means the second leg at Mirandes will start all square as the two sides battle it out to see who will make the final and fight for promotion to the top flight.
An expectant home crowd at El Sardinero was entertained throughout this contest, which saw Mirandes take the lead just after the half-hour mark through Urko Izeta.
Three minutes after the opener, Hugo Rincon doubled the visitors' lead, but Inigo Vicente pulled one back on 40 minutes to give the hosts hope heading into the half-time break.
Eleven minutes after the break, Alberto Reina restored Mirandes's two-goal cushion, and it looked like it wouldn't be Racing's day until the 71st minute when Andres Martin scored to put it back within a goal.
In the opening minutes of stoppage-time, the Martin scored again, but it was ruled out by the video assistant referee after he'd drifted offside to receive a throughball by a razor-thin margin.
But Racing continued to push forward, and its persistence paid off. Martin collected the ball on the edge of the box, jinking into space and releasing Rober, who flicked the ball back to Jon Karrikaburu, who somehow spun and shot towards goal.
The ball hit the crossbar before bouncing across the goal and hitting the post, eventually falling into the goal off Mirandes's Julio Alonso to level the scores.
The second leg will take place on Friday (AEST), by which time these sides will know whether Oviedo or Almeira has progressed from the other semi-final, with Oviedo holding a 2-1 advantage in that tie.
