Nigeria thrashes Zambia to make WAFCON semis
Nigeria moved emphatically into the last four at the 2024 Women's Africa Cup of Nations with a 5-0 thrashing of Zambia in their quarter-final in Casablanca.
Much of the pre-match talk ahead of the match had been about how this could be a tight contest, but it was clear after just 80 seconds at Stade Larbi Zaouli it might not be as the Super Falcons went ahead.
Osinachi Ohale nodded home opened the scoring with a towering header, and it was 3-0 at the break after further strikes from Esther Okoronkwo in the 33rd minute and Chinwendu Ihezuo on the stroke of half-time.
Despite having superstars Barbra Banda and Racheal Kundananji in their starting line-up, the Copper Queens could not mount any serious challenge on Nigeria's goal, finishing the match with not a single shot on target.
Meanwhile Nigeria, which is seeking a record-extending 10th title and is yet to concede at this tournament, was scoring for fun as Oluwatosin Demehin added a fourth on 68 minutes and Folashade Florence Ijamilusi fired home a fifth in the first minute of stoppage-time.
