Black Queens rise to qualify for WAFCON last eight
Ghana moved from last place in Group C up to second to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Women's Africa Cup of Nations with a 4-1 win over Tanzania.
The Black Queens went ahead in somewhat fortunate circumstances after pressing Tanzania's defence high up the field.
Goalkeeper Najiat Abass Idrisa attempted to clear, but the ball rebounded off the back of Princella Adubea and into the back of the net to give Ghana a 12th minute lead.
Tanzania worked hard to get back into the game and levelled just before half-time through Stumai Athumani.
But just after the hour, a poor challenge in the box by Anastazia Antony Katunzi brought down Princess, and the referee had no choice but to award a penalty, which Alice Kusi put away to restore Ghana's lead.
Another set-piece saw that lead extended on 87 minutes as Evelyn Badu took advantage of some defensive confusion in Tanzania's six-yard box to poke home, and Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah made sure of the result on 90 minutes when she finished a sweeping counter-attack with a cool right-foot finish.
Ghana will play Algeria in the quarter-finals on Sunday (AEST), while Tanzania leaves the tournament empty handed.
