Farrell's Six Nations preparations hit by injury
Owen Farrell faces a tight call over his availability for England's Six Nations opener against Ireland after withdrawing late from Saracens' European Champions Cup clash with Glasgow Warriors.
The Sarries fly-half is to have surgery to treat an injury to the base of his thumb and reports suggest his recovery will take between seven to 10 days.
With England beginning its tournament in Dublin on 2 February, that would leave Farrell little time to recover.
Earlier this week, Farrell was named sole captain after co-skipper Dylan Hartley was ruled out of the start of the tournament with a knee injury.
