Trolls go gaga over Zaza's cha-cha
The internet can be a cruel beast at the best of times, but when you step up in a UEFA EURO 2016 quarter-final and fail as spectacularly as Simone Zaza did, you're asking for trouble.
Antonio Conte was praised for his tactical genius at UEFA EURO 2016, but turning to Juventus striker Simeone Zaza in the 6-5 penalty shootout defeat to Germany blew up in the face of the Italy coach.
It was a comedy of errors from both sides in the shootout, but Zaza's ridiculous penalty was the pick of the bunch as Italy crashed out of the tournament.
Unfortunately for Zaza, the internet has spoken and based on these hilarious tweets, it could go down as his most memorable contribution to the national team.
The 25 year-old defended his unique run-up, which he credited to sending Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer the wrong way.
"I have always taken my penalties like that and was convinced I'd score.
"I did send Manuel Neuer the wrong way, but unfortunately the ball went too high. It will be difficult, but I want to get over it. I want the Italians to know that we gave everything.
"I missed the most important penalty of my career and it'll be with me for the rest of my life."
