The Pending Account of Bellingham
Jude Bellingham faces his personal 'nemesis' once again, Bayern Munich, the team against which he has lost the most matches in his career, with seven defeats in eight encounters, and against whom he has never managed to score. Now, with the Real Madrid shirt on, he aims to settle those unfinished business in the Champions League semifinals.
There is not a single positive memory of Bellingham against Bayern Munich, and the English midfielder hopes to change that with Real Madrid. Until now, playing for Borussia Dortmund, he lost two German Supercup finals and was defeated in five Bundesliga matches. His best result was a 2-2 draw.
Bellingham suffered losses in each of his four visits to the Allianz Arena in Munich. The first two occasions, still as a substitute for Dortmund, were in the German Supercup final in September 2020 (2-1) and in his first league visit in 2021 (4-2). Already as a starter in the last two, he lost 3-1 in 2022 and 4-2 in 2023.
In the 508 minutes Bellingham has played against Bayern Munich in official matches, he has not managed to score and has received two yellow cards. His record is seven losses and one draw, with 25 goals conceded (an average of 3.1 per match) and 14 scored.
Bayern leads among the teams against which Bellingham has lost the most, followed by Leipzig, against which he has lost three out of five encounters, and Borussia Mönchengladbach, against which he has also lost three times in six matches.
In the quarterfinals of the current Champions League, Bellingham managed to change a poor statistic against Manchester City, against whom he had lost in his first three meetings. With two draws and his goal in the penalty shootout, he shook off that burden. Now, he faces Bayern.
