PSG Bid Farewell to Poker: Treble as Consolation
Falling short of reaching the Champions League final meant Luis Enrique and his team kissed goodbye to the chance of bagging all the trophies this season.
It was an ambition they embraced and even turned into a goal. But that ambition faded away last night at the Parc des Princes, as the dream of making it to PSG's second Champions League final vanished. Facing Borussia Dortmund (0-1), Luis Enrique and his team waved goodbye to the prospect of achieving a historic quadruple.
The treble for solace It's a disappointment they'll need to bounce back from quickly because the Parisian season isn't over yet. While the European horizon has darkened, there's still one trophy left for the Parisians to conquer. Already crowned champions of France and winners of the Champions Trophy, they can complete the French Grand Slam by reclaiming the French Cup on May 25th against Olympique Lyonnais.
A victory won't erase the European failure, but it'll at least cap off Luis Enrique's first season and offer PSG their first treble since 2020. A solid way to kickstart a new virtuous cycle.
