Kroos Admits Referee Error in Semifinal Against Bayern
German midfielder Toni Kroos weighed in on the controversial play regarding the disallowed goal by De Ligt at the end of the match.
After securing their spot in the Champions League final by defeating Bayern Munich at the Santiago Bernabéu and enjoying a slight celebration for winning the La Liga title in the streets of Madrid, German midfielder Toni Kroos admitted that the play should have continued until it ended and then, if deemed offside or until VAR reviewed it, the goal should have been annulled.
"It was a bad decision. The game should have been allowed to continue and the play to finish," Kroos opined on the podcast he hosts with his brother Felix. "I think the mistake lies mainly with the assistant, because if he raises the flag, the referee understands that there was probably an offside by three meters," Kroos commented.
"The anger from Bayern is justified because you have to face the situation until the end, 100%," Kroos affirmed.
However, Kroos also mentioned that he wasn't sure if the Madrid defenders would have stopped the play if it had continued, as the referee's whistle also led to a decrease in the team's tension wanting to defend the play.
