Champions League: PSG's Major Financial Move
After being knocked out of the Champions League by Borussia Dortmund, PSG would have made a huge financial move.
Sadness and disappointment are what PSG fans are feeling right now as the wound of elimination at the hands of Borussia Dortmund is still very fresh. However, after being knocked out in the round of 16 of the Champions League in the last two years, Parisians made it back to the semifinals with a great tournament under Luis Enrique, thus generating an excellent financial move close to $129.6 million.
The Ligue 1 champions have earned nearly $129.6 million solely from their UEFA revenues divided as follows: participation bonus ($16.89 million), results bonus during the season ($8 million), a coefficient bonus calculated based on the last ten years and UEFA ranking (approximately $32.4 million), national TV rights ($35.6 million), and a bonus for reaching the Round of 16 ($10.3 million), Quarterfinals ($11.4 million), and Semifinals ($12.5 million).
The loot could have been even greater had they made it to the Champions League final. This would have brought in an additional $16.7 million, and a final victory would have added another $4.8 million. Last season, PSG had
to "settle" for just over $100 million. A solid performance that will ease the pain a bit of not seeing Wembley on June 1st.
