AC Milan Fans Stall the Appointment of New Coach!
Under the hashtag #Nopetegui on social media, Rossoneri fans have voiced their opposition to the appointment of Julen Lopetegui as the new manager.
A group of AC Milan fans, frustrated by a disappointing season outcome, have spoken out against the potential hiring of Spanish coach Julen Lopetegui and created a movement called 'Nopetegui' that has flooded social media.
Since the name of the Basque coach emerged just three days ago as a possible replacement for Stefano Pioli on the Milan bench, fans have mobilized to express their discontent with the supposed choice by the management, which local media had reportedly already decided on.
Using the power of social media, many prominent accounts within Milan fandom have shown their displeasure and expressed a preference for Antonio Conte.
'Milan Zone,' one of the most well-known accounts on 'X' (formerly Twitter), launched a petition on 'change.org' to gather signatures against Lopetegui, which garnered nearly 11,000 supporters in less than 48 hours.
"The arrival of Lopetegui could threaten Milan's historic legacy, considering his past as a coach. For instance, during his tenure at Real Madrid, the team performed poorly and he was dismissed just four months after his arrival," the account explains in its 'change.org' petition.
"We want to protect Milan's legacy and ensure it is led by a coach worthy of its glorious history. Therefore, we request the club's management to keep Lopetegui away from our beloved 'rossoneri' bench," it adds.
Local media no longer consider Lopetegui's arrival in Milan (northern Italy) a certainty, while his potential hiring by England's West Ham gains momentum following the opposition of Milan fans, who were disappointed by the team's elimination from the Europa League and by seeing Inter win the 'Scudetto' in a derby.
