What's Happening with Antony? Over $100 Million Spent, and He's 'Missing in Action
The Brazilian's involvement with the 'Red Devils' has gone unnoticed, and questions are starting to arise about his arrival at the club.
The 24-year-old Brazilian, Antony, has gone from being one of the most anticipated signings at Manchester United to being on the verge of becoming one of the worst in the team's history if he doesn't improve his numbers. What he's been doing this season is a disaster and far from his best version, as he was at Ajax.
For this reason, the head coach of the 'Red Devils,' Erik Ten Hag, has decided to give him minimal playing time so far this year, preferring other players. For instance, with the absences of Martial and Hojlund, the Dutch coach has opted to give preference to the young Omari Forson, who has shown better performance than the Brazilian with millions of dollars in this season.
"I supported him for a long time. I know his skills, great skills. I know from the past that he's unstoppable. No defender can stop him because he's one of the fastest in the first 10 meters... he's tough, has character, and will fight. I support him. Now he has to wait for his opportunity, and once he's there, he has to seize it," commented Ten Hag before the United's match against Nottingham in the FA Cup.
During the start of the year 2024, Antony has had minimal activity with the team. In six Premier League matches, the Brazilian didn't play in two, and in three, he had activity only in injury time. Throughout the year, Antony has accumulated a total of 49 minutes played in four matches.
Antony's numbers are disappointing for someone who cost so much money. In this Premier League campaign, the forward has scored zero goals, and in the FA Cup, he has scored one. Last year, he scored only 10 goals in total (all competitions).
