Sven-Göran Eriksson Will Fulfill his Dream of Managing Liverpool
Former coach Sven Goran-Eriksson, who was diagnosed with terminal cancer a few months ago, will fulfill his dream of managing Liverpool. In this case, it's the legends team where he stated that the experience of leading Liverpool legends this weekend "is like a dream."
The Swedish coach, who managed teams like Benfica, Roma, Lazio, England, and Manchester City, will be on the Anfield bench this Saturday to lead a match with players such as Jerzy Dudek, Sander Westerveld, Martin Skrtel, Fabio Aurelio, Djibril Cissé, and Ryan Babel. Alongside him will be other Liverpool legends like Ian Rush, John Barnes, and John Aldridge
"My father was a Liverpool fan and still is, so my love for the team comes from there," said the Swedish coach in a press conference on Friday.
"You could watch a match every Saturday on TV. Then, in '79 (when I was coaching Goteborg), I wrote to the club and asked if I could watch a training session. They replied and invited me. I watched a match and some training sessions and had the chance to be in the team's dressing room. It was great, fantastic."
Upon learning about his pancreatic cancer situation, Jürgen Klopp didn't hesitate to invite the Swedish coach to Anfield and assist him in coaching the legends match this Saturday against Ajax Amsterdam.
"Being in this match is a dream, and I could never have dreamed of so much, but as a coach, I always wanted to go to Liverpool, but it never happened. I was close once, and there were talks. It was many years ago, and it never happened."
