Pochettino to Stay at Chelsea
Mauricio Pochettino, Chelsea's coach, cleared up doubts about his future at the English club, stating they are already preparing for preseason and the next season.
The Argentine's future has been in doubt in recent months due to the team's poor results, being eliminated from cup competitions and lacking the possibility to qualify for the Champions League for the second consecutive season. However, the past few weeks have restored confidence in Pochettino, who, with three games left in the Premier League, still has a chance to secure fifth place for Chelsea, granting access to the Europa League.
Even Todd Boehly, owner of Chelsea, discussed the team's current situation at a Sportico conference in Los Angeles.
"In the last two and a half games, against Aston Villa (2-2), Tottenham (2-0), and West Ham (5-0), we've played beautiful football," said the American. "It was very fluid, exactly how we want it. When we were building from the back and moving around the field in an organized manner and with the number of shots we are taking... In these two and a half games, you can really see us coming together. Even the comments have changed during this time. I've never seen something change so quickly," Boehly added.
Before facing Nottingham Forest this Saturday, Pochettino shed light on his future at the club.
"We are already working and planning the preseason tour. We have had some meetings to organize next season and, of course, work on the future," said the Argentine in a press conference on Friday.
The coach played down all the rumors about the future, saying it's not "important."
"The important thing is that we keep working if we are all happy. If we are happy, perfect, but this only works if everyone is happy. It wouldn't be the first time that at the end of the season the coaching staff decides not to continue, but usually it's the owners or the board who decide that," he said.
"Tomorrow they can decide, or maybe I can say 'I'm leaving.' It's a decision that both parties have to make. I don't want to say that I'm not happy, but you have to look at both sides."
