Manchester City Take Huge Step Towards Premier League Title
The Cityzens defeated Tottenham, overtook Arsenal in the standings, and now control their own destiny to become champions on the final matchday.
Manchester City defeated Tottenham (0-2) in the rescheduled Matchday 34 fixture, thanks to a brace from Erling Haaland. The game also saw City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega, who replaced Ederson, shine with crucial saves in the final stages to secure the Skyblues' victory.
This triumph could be pivotal in the Premier League title race, as it allowed Manchester City to overtake Arsenal in the standings. With only one match left, Guardiola's side leads with 88 points, compared to the Gunners' 86.
The goals came in the second half after a first period in which Tottenham managed to keep City at bay, with Vicario delivering an inspired performance in goal. It wasn't until the 51st minute that Haaland capitalized on excellent play from Foden and De Bruyne, the latter providing a perfect assist for the Norwegian to score into an open net.
City had to wait until the 91st minute, enduring several clear chances from Spurs, which Ortega brilliantly saved. Haaland then sealed the win with a penalty, making it 0-2.
This result propels City towards the title, but the final matchday still offers Arsenal a chance to become champions. They need to win their match and hope City loses or draws theirs. With this victory, City now controls its destiny and will become champions if they win.
