Manchester City Star Breaks Record for Most Consecutive Unbeaten Matches in Premier League
Against Manchester United, the talisman of the Cityzens became the player with the most consecutive matches without knowing defeat.
Spanish midfielder Rodrigo Hernández reached 59 consecutive matches without losing this Sunday. Following Manchester City's victory in the Manchester derby, the midfielder surpassed Ricardo Carvalho's 58 matches with Chelsea, becoming the player with the most consecutive appearances in the Premier League without knowing defeat.
This is a historic milestone for a player who has not experienced defeat since February 2023 when City lost at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium against the Spurs (1-0), their least favorable venue. Since then, whenever Pep Guardiola has fielded Rodri, City has emerged victorious.
A few weeks ago, during the comeback against Brentford (1-3) led by Phil Foden's hat trick, Rodri completed a year without knowing defeat. This Sunday, in the comeback against United, also fueled by Foden's brace, he surpassed Carvalho's record.
The Portuguese remained undefeated for 58 matches between November 2006 and February 2008.
Rodri has missed City's three defeats in this Premier League, all due to suspension, against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Arsenal, and Aston Villa. Last season, he also missed the match against Brentford on the final matchday when the Sky Blues fell with a team full of substitutes due to the proximity of the FA Cup and Champions League finals.
"I read that it had been I don't know how many months or matches," Rodri said after completing a year undefeated. "It's truly remarkable. I'm happy, especially for what it means for the team not to lose for a year. In that sense, it just makes me want to keep going forward," he concluded.
