Klopp Denies Rumors Linking Darwin Núñez to Barcelona
The German coach assured that there is nothing regarding the future of the Uruguayan Liverpool striker who has been linked with Barcelona.
Jürgen Klopp, Liverpool manager, dismissed any speculation regarding Darwin Núñez after the Uruguayan striker deleted several photos with Liverpool from his social media accounts due to receiving insults and was linked with Barcelona.
"What? There's no speculation. It must be something external because I know nothing about it. There's no speculation right now; this is the situation," Klopp said in a press conference on Friday.
The Uruguayan forward decided to delete several posts following insults he received for missing a chance against Tottenham Hotspur, and rumors about a possible exit escalated after he took a photo with Ronald Araujo, a Barcelona player.
"Yes, Darwin wasn't happy about missing that chance. He's been unlucky on many occasions because he's doing everything right, but the ball isn't going in, and that's very tough for such a young person. He knows the expectations placed on him, and it's hard," Klopp noted.
"There’s no other option but to go through this, and that's what he's doing. It's part of a football player's career. His problem is that he's so good that he's constantly in that position. If he weren't so good, he wouldn't have so many opportunities. He's so good that he's in those moments to score, but right now, he's not scoring," he added.
In the 52 games Darwin has played this season, he has scored 18 goals and provided 13 assists. However, according to the Expected Goals metric, he should have scored eight more goals this season.
