Guardiola Sees his End at City Nearing: "I'm Closer to Leaving Than Staying"
After making history by turning Manchester City into the first team to win four consecutive Premier League titles, Pep Guardiola confirmed that he is "closer" to leaving than staying after the next season.
"The reality is that I'm closer to leaving than staying. We have talked with the club, and I feel like I want to stay now. I will stay next season, and during the season we will talk," he stated to Sky Sports.
Guardiola explained the keys to their success in once again dominating the Premier League and leaving Arsenal disappointed in the final matchday after a great season finale.
"I don't know the secret. I work a lot. I respect them a lot. Be humble, have an incredible work ethic. One game, one game, one game: you can't think in November that you're going to win it," he reflected.
Furthermore, he highlighted how his team has adapted to playing with a number nine like Erling Haaland. "The sporting director gives me these players and I think, ok, what is the best position for them? We can't play with a false nine with Haaland; we adapt his abilities to the rest of the players. It's not that I have an idea and all the players have to follow it. We adapt to the players."
Guardiola concluded by praising the Premier League title won by Phil Foden, who scored a brace in the final matchday. "We were without Haaland for many months, and Julián Álvarez did an incredible job, and Phil Foden has that talent. On the big stage, in the big moment, he did it. Incredible players, but with Phil, we have something extra," he concluded.
