Chelsea Owner's Unpopular Plea to Fans
Chelsea has spent over 1000 million on signings, yet the team is eleventh in the table, far from Champions League spots. Todd Boehly called for calm.
Todd Boehly, owner of Chelsea, urged fans for patience following the team's recent poor results, notably a 2-2 draw against Burnley, a struggling team that played with one less player for most of the match.
"The good news is that people are very involved, and the bad news is that people care too much," Boehly said in Forbes.
"This often leads to frustration with the team and the owners. I understand it, but we have to move forward," added the club owner since May 2022, when Roman Abramovich, who won 18 titles with Chelsea, had to sell due to his involvement with Russia.
"We just have to let the process run its course and give time for the young players to transition from being great individual talents to forming a team," he added.
Chelsea currently sits eleventh in the Premier League, with 40 points, 19 points away from the Champions League and eight points off sixth place. Their best chance this season to lift a trophy and qualify for Europe lies in the FA Cup, where they face Manchester City in the semifinals in two weeks.
