Bernardo Silva and His Nightmare Night in the Champions League
Bernardo Silva, Manchester City player, admitted he didn't get much sleep the night he missed the penalty against Real Madrid. He thought aiming for the middle was a good option because "99% of goalkeepers move."
The Portuguese midfielder faced Andriy Lunin in the second penalty shootout against Real Madrid, which led to City's downfall and subsequent elimination in the quarter-finals.
"It's football, it's our job. It was tough. The first night I didn't sleep much, the second was a bit better. By the third, you almost sleep through the night, but that's how it goes, it's football. You have to deal with these emotions," Silva said after City's qualification for the FA Cup final.
"I had two options. In my mind, I had one of the sides, I won't tell you which one, and the center. I waited. I wanted to take the second or third penalty to see the goalkeeper's reaction. In the first one, he moved early, so I thought the middle was a good option because in those pressure moments, 99% of goalkeepers move. He chose not to, and fair play to him," added the Portuguese.
